The Story

The Coronavirus pandemic has disrupted the food supply chain especially in the rural areas of the Philippines. This means that the need to grow your own food in your backyard is quickly becoming an essential. Alongside the growing of vegetable and root crops, the raising of small animals like chickens and ducks for protein and income is very much needed. In this way, food for the table as well as a source of income is assured. With lockdowns because of the pandemic, there is much time available for the family members to engage in this activity. We aim to engage 400 families to grow their own food by providing them with farming inputs such as seeds, organic fertilizer, garden tools and small animals and then teaching them how to do it.

The pandemic has affected mostly the poor whose food reserves are very low. Coupled with this is the devastation caused by climate change as the Philippines is visited by more than 10 highly destructive typhoons every year. Educating the poor to be self-sufficient and using their local resources with pump-priming inputs from outside is the best strategy yet.

Your support is very much needed in order to free the poor from hunger and malnutrition. Together we can do this.

Thank you so much.
